In a world where so much pressure is placed on young people from a very early age, it seems that the joy, value and power of play have been forgotten!
The theme for 2025 is, “Choose Play-Every Day!”
Play is not only fun, it is essential for learning, creativity, development and wellbeing. It's not just a break from formal, structured learning, but a fundamental in acquiring knowledge and skills. Play enables children, and people of all ages, to learn new things and different ways of doing things, practice what they're learning, engage in problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity, all with intrinsic motivation to keep doing what they enjoy most.
"Play is our brain's favorite way of learning." - Diane Ackerman
Play isn’t just fun – it’s essential for every child’s development. This theme encourages a reminder for governments, businesses, schools, and families to prioritize and embrace play for children. The day is an opportunity to celebrate the power of play and raise awareness about its importance in a child's development and well-being.
What are you doing to enable fulfilment of every child’s right to play?

“Play can foster relationships, a sense of community, and national pride while supporting well-being and skill development.”
Dr Downey said research since the late 1800s has argued the role of play is fundamental in children’s learning and development.” Dr. Downey, Charles Sturt University
