Right from the beginning it was a goal that this Association would embody the spirit of Korczak and young people would be active, equal participants in the shaping of roles and activities of the Janusz Korczak Association Australia. This began with a meeting of a group of students in a state primary school in an outer suburb of Melbourne, Wooranna Park Primary School, then under the leadership of School Principal Ray Trotter. A school with students from more than forty different cultures and religions, all respected and valued as equals.
With the visionary leadership of Principal Ray Trotter together with dedicated staff who put children first, student agency was a priority across the school, with students leading their own learning and active participants and decision makers in student councils.
